Access to the Nordgruve mines and deposits is by paved and gravel roads linked to the excellent national road network. A railway runs through the district, connecting Røros and Ålen to Trondheim (2½ hours) and Oslo (5 hours). Travel by regional and national roads takes approximately the same time. Trondheim is the regional hub and has an international airport and a sea port. There is a domestic airport at Røros with two daily flights to and from Oslo.
Telecommunications and Internet access are excellent throughout Norway. Røros has good local facilities and amenities, including an industrial estate with plant hire and hardware stores, a hospital, hotels, and vehicle hire.
Grid power is available in the Røros district. Although the power line to the plant at Kongens Gruve was removed several years ago, the district power company is already discussing options for a possible resumption of mining. A provisional route had also been planned for power to the Hersjø mine from the direction of Ålen.
